Hello Kitty in the Rockies
We had such great fun in New York this summer when we attended the Dali and Film exhibit at MoMA and then went to see Jeff Koons' exhilarating sculptures On the Roof at the Met.New York is always full of surprises so when we ran across some large, playful sculptures of Hello Kitty and friends by Tom Sachs in front of Lever House, Brenda just had to get some photos which we posted on flickr.com.
A few months later in Aspen we came across Tom Sachs work at the Baldwin Gallery and we both had to get into the picture.
A New Yorker by birth Tom Sachs (b. 1966) attended Bennington College in Vermont. After graduation he went to London to study architecture. Returning to the U.S. to live and work in New York he designed a Christmas window for the Barney's store featuring Hello Kitty as the Virgin Mary. His sculpture and other works of art evidence his interest in consumerism.Sachs' work has been exhibited at the Deutsche Guggenheim, Guggenheim New York, MoMa, the Whitney as well as the Centre Pompidou in Paris. You can read more about Sachs in this Wikipedia article.
